Terra Sancta Maps

 

Terra Sancta collection, maps of the Holy Land  and Jerusalem, from the Eran Laor Cartographic collection of the Jewish National and University Library in Jerusalem.

This  Israeli company is specializing in high quality  printing facsimiles of early maps. The maps are printed on special

"parchment   paper",which allows very high quality prints.

This handmade paper is manufactured using age old techniques.

Copperplate
The route of the Exodus and the division of the land among the Twelve Tribes are prominent.
The
Holy Land extends from the Nile to Damascus and from the Arnon Valley to the Mediterranean Sea. Long considered the first map of the Holy Land to use Hebrew lettering exclusively.
From "The Amsterdam Hagadah" by Abraham ben Yaakov , 17th Century. Published in
Amsterdam in 1695.
The illustration on the right shows the story of Jonah and the whale. Above is Solomons boat which carried the cedar trees for the construction of the
Temple .
The woman on righ symbolizes
Africa. The eagle is the emblem of the Divine Power.

The map was originally dated 1611 and included in Speeds
"Genealogies of Holy Scriptures" inserted in the "Editio Princeps" of the King James Bible, published by Robert Barker .
